January News:
In January the Tiger Cubs learned about astronomy. Astronomy is the science that studies the universe. The first night we learned how to find different planets and stars in the night sky. Some of the objects you can see in January are the Moon, Mars, Venus, Uranus, and Neptune. Of course you can see a lot of stars but the brightest is Polaris or the “North Star”. We learned if you want to look at the planets and stars you need to do it on a clear night and away from the city lights. Our next night we learned about the telescope and how to use it. We learned that the telescope is made up of several parts like the main tube, the eye piece, the finder lens, the mount, and the tripod. It was raining so we set it up inside and looked at Mr. Tony holding a book way down the hall. It made him and the book look real close. Even thought the writing in the book was big enough to read everything was upside down and backwards. We learned that this was because inside the main tube there are mirrors and lenses that do this.On our last night we worked on our poster that shows many of the interesting things you can see with a telescope
